In 2017 Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi as well as Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it topped the charts for most streamed songs during the course of 6 months. In 2020, several Reggaeton artists were complaining about the direction of the genre toward the mainstream. Yet, a young generation such as Rauw Alejandro was keen to maintain the development. It often blended elements from electronic dance music and other genres.
